May 2008 Prayershield Bulletin
Derbyshire
As we pray for our own area, we must realise that we are not an island
- we are part of a much bigger picture of what God is doing. So over the
next few months we will be praying for some of our neighbouring cities and counties.
As we ask God to bless others, this changes the spiritual climate in our nation.
Derbyshire is a very diverse county, standing in the centre of the country
and bordering on various regions. There are different issues in different parts
of the county to pray for. Derby is the county's only city, in the south. Other
parts of South Derbyshire are quite rural, relating to either Derby or Burton.
The many towns on the east side relate more towards Nottingham, and there are
a number of former mining communities here.
Head further west and you are soon
into the beautiful Peak District, another very rural area, with tourism being
a big factor in life here. On the edge of the park is the county town of Matlock.
In the north-west of the county, Buxton and Glossop are on the doorstep of
Manchester.
The third Derbyshire Prayer Walk is happening at the start of May, completing
a circuit started in last year's walk going around the perimiter of the county.
More details of the walk are available from the Member's
section.
Please pray:
- For identity issues with the different parts of the county, as they
try to relate to each other, as well as their various links to towns and
cities over the border in neighbouring districts.
- For the newly elected council in Derby. Pray that new councillors
will settle in and be able to quickly start representing the people who have
elected
them.
- For the various Hope ’08 initiatives, large and small.
- For the places visited by the prayer walkers, giving thanks for everywhere
they have visited over these last three years.
